The 1st Nordic Cancer Rehabilitation Symposium was held in Copenhagen 20-21 September, 2010. More than 350 people from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Canada, USA, Germany, the United Kingdom, The Faroe Islands and the Netherlands attended the meeting.
The Nordic Cancer Rehabilitation was organized by Acta Oncologica, the Danish Cancer Society, and the National Research Center of Cancer Rehabilitation, Institute of Public Health, Southern Danish University.
The symposium offered an opportunity to gain more insight into subjects related to cancer rehabilitation including:
-
Interventions on treatment of physical and psychosocial symptoms and late effects
-
Health behavior interventions and screening for rehabilitation needs
-
Life after a cancer diagnosis
-
Social inequality as well as the need to provide rehabilitation to spouses and significant others
The symposium included keynote speakers, oral abstract presentations and 50 posters addressing a variety of disciplines within cancer rehabilitation. For more information on the presentations please see the NCRS Scientific Program 2010. On the occasion of the symposium a special issue of the journal Acta Oncologica was published (Volume 50, Number 2, February 2011). The issue focuses on key perspectives presented at the symposium. The articles are therefore highly relevant for anyone who wants to gain insight into the current "hot topics" in cancer rehabilitation.
