Danish Cancer Society Symposium 2012 |
|
The 18th Cancer Symposium entitled Metabolism and Cancer will take place at the Danish Cancer Society from 17-19 September 2012 in Copenhagen.
Background
Recent years have seen a dramatic rise in the interest in the link(s) between altered metabolism and cancer development. Whereas this link has until recently largely been synonymous with the Warburg effect, it has become increasingly clear that cancer cells exhibit dramatic alterations in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids, and that these changes are of fundamental importance for cancer development and progression. The symposium will cover all major aspects of metabolic changes in cancer, including their genetic origin and “omics”, their consequences at the levels of cancer cell function and tumour development, to preclinical and clinical perspectives on how these metabolic changes may be exploited diagnostically and therapeutically.
Topics
The symposium will focus on the following topics:
- Overview and “Omics” of altered metabolism in cancer
- Signalling and microenvironment in regulation of tumour metabolism
- pH regulation and cancer metabolism
- Imaging tumour metabolism
- Treatment strategies targeting metabolism in cancer
Organisers
Stine Falsig Pedersen, University of Copenhagen
