Work packages in ELIN

The ELIN research project is organized in work packages (WPs)

WP1: Epidemiological studies on chronic disease

The aim of WP1 is to establish the relationship between enterolactone and mortality among patients diagnosed with the following chronic diseases: breast cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease (acute coronary syndrome). WP1 is headed by Anja Olsen.

WP2: Incorporation of plant lignans in food

The aim of WP2 is to develop food cereal products high in plant lignans without compromising the organoleptic quality. WP2 is headed by Knud Erik Bach Knudsen.

WP3: Pharmacokinetic studies on animals

The aim of WP3 s to study how the food matrix and antimicrobials influence the pharmacokinetics of plant and enterolignans and the impact of that in inflammatory markers and lipid peroxidation. WP3 is headed by Helle Nygaard Lærke.

WP4: Short-term human intervention study

The aim of WP4 is to evaluate the palatability of the two plant lignan-rich foods compared with refined control foods and the influence on plant- and enterolignan levels in plasma in a pilot intervention study in men diagnosed with the metabolic syndrome. WP4 is headed by Rikard Landberg.

WP5: Long-term intervention study on prostate cancer subjects

The aim of WP5 is to study the influence of whole-grain rye (a rich source of lignans) on prostate cancer progression. WP5 is headed by Anne Tjønneland.
