April 2026
24/04/26 – EpiC logo competition winner announced
Congratulations to Juliettte Ferrand, a postdoc from the Mailand lab, who submitted the winning design in our center-wide competition to create the EpiC logo.
13/04/26 – Nilsson lab ran a PhD course on CRISPR gene editing technologies
CRISPR gene editing is reshaping research in many fields, and Jakob Nilsson’s lab just ran a three-day PhD course giving early-career scientists the theory and hands-on insights to apply these tools. With DCI experts and international speakers from Novartis and CIEMAT, nearly 25 participants exchanged knowledge across academia and industry to power the next generation of breakthroughs.

20/02/26– EpiC labs recognized for their sustainability practices
EpiC researchers are committed to sustainable lab practices and reducing environmental footprint without compromising research quality and standards. In recognition of this, the Mailand group has been awarded LEAF Gold certificate and the Groth lab was awarded a Bronze certificate.

15/01/26 – Jacobæus Prize for Biomedicine 2025 to Anja Groth
Congratulations to EpiC center director, Prof. Anja Groth on receiving the Novo Nordisk Foundation Jacobæus Prize for Biomedicine 2025 in recognition of groundbreaking discoveries in epigenetic cell memory!
13/01/26 – EpiC PhD student wins Best talk at DCI retreat
Congratulations to Anastasia Kurzyukova, a PhD student in the Groth group, who was awarded the prize for the Best talk at DCI annual retreat.
08/01/26 – NNF project grant awarded to Nils Krietenstein
Congratulations to Associate Prof. Nils Krietenstein for being awarded a awarded NNF Project grant in Bioscience and Biomedicine to decipher the mechanisms of genome micro-compartmentalisation.

15/11/25 – EpiC members awarded funding from the Independent Research Fund Denmark
Congratulations to EpiC members for being awarded funding from Independent Research Fund Denmark:
Prof. Niels Mailand for being awarded a research for the Systematic Profiling of Histone Locus Bodies and Their Essential Role in Cell Physiology.
Postdoc Filip Mihalic and Prof. Jakob Nilsson for receiving funding for ActiveEdit – A phenotypic screening platform for identification of enzyme drug targets.

21/10/25 – First EpiC center meeting
Today we held our first, monthly center meeting. This will consist of research progress presentations and creative problem solving-style feedback sessions from EpiC members. To facilitate this, we introduced the center to Creative Problem Solving techniques as taught to us by InnovationBound

27/08/25 – Official opening of the center for Epigenetic Cell Memory
Today we celebrated the official opening of EpiC. It was so great to celebrate with so many, share our hopes for the future, and express our gratitude to the Danish National Research Foundation for making EpiC possible. We can now start the exciting new journey to explore how cells remember who they are through countless divisions.
